Hidden House

Once upon a time there was a modest sheet metal door. Beyond that door was a long hallway. After that corridor, another one appeared to the left and another long final section turning to the right. After all this journey, our client arrived at the patio of what we call “Casa Escondida” ("Hidden House"). She saw the potential to make it her home, her paradise. At that moment he shared it with us, we saw the same potential and even more, in this diamond in the rough.

Its typology was strange. A patio as the center of the scene was placed before the house stuck in the seventies, crossed in its entire front by a robust staircase that led to the terrace. Our field of action would be renovating the fifty square meters of the house and the entire patio.

From what was a dark house with a locked energy distribution, we made one with an open concept, wide spaces, communicated between them, where the circulation of light, air and movement are fluid and comfortable. We not only expanded horizontally by demolishing walls, but we also extended by chipping the ceilings until we reached the vault, and we let those hidden bricks of approximately one hundred years, come to light.

In the patio we managed to make Vivi's dream come true by building a small pool in front of the kitchen. We demolished the material staircase that crossed the façade of the house, replacing it with a small, lateral iron one, thus clearing the entire front of the house. The design of iron doors and windows is designed inspired by old lines, so that they suggest the real age of the construction, but with a more current look.

There is so much to tell about this house, every detail, every space... The images speak for themselves. It is a project that we adore from day one and it exceeded all our expectations in the process and the result. Our favorite space? Undoubtedly the kitchen with a French air, half city, half countryside. It is the heart of the hidden house.
